Hey guys, love your podcasts, and this is my first time commenting here. Im half japanese, half english, so I’m a big fan of sasuke, ANW and NWUK. I’m also fluent in japanese, so i could clarify a couple of things.
That being said, the mentality towards sasuke is very different from their american or british counterparts. I always felt like ANW was more of a competition and Sasuke was more like Everyone vs. the obstacles.
The guy with the anime hair(yutaka) and the facepaint guy(darvish) are actually in a band called golden bomber. As you said, darvish developed into a serious contender over the years, but yutaka is basically there for comedic relief, proved by falling gracefully into the water two years in row.
On the Drew thing, i think he’s actually the most respected american. I don’t really know whats going on behind the scenes, but I’m pretty sure they were rooting him on from what they were saying.
I love Sasuke and any Ninja Warrior competition, and i hope you guys do this podcast next year aswell.
Ryo Matachi is terrible at strength based obstacles. He can’t do the wall lift, and he really struggled with the tackle machine last year, and timed out at the warped wall. What he was trying to do was cheat the obstacle by exerting less energy, when he was really making it harder. What it came down to was him not paying attention in physics class.
Oh, I also forgot to say that the golden competitor thing doesn’t have anything to do with sasuke, it’s just who you predicted to do the best in the competition in the SMF guessing game. But it is still an honor to run last.
Thanks for the clarifications Matt!
The golden competitor thing was definitely confusing me, and I think you are the first person to fill me in on that part.
